Watershed walk + cider
If you’ve walked Bucknell Drive, you’ve seen the concrete channel that runs alongside it. It wasn’t always a storm drain. It used to be a stream, part of the Wheaton Branch, and it still carries rain from downtown Wheaton through Evans Parkway Park, past the stormwater sites near Dennis Avenue and on into Sligo Creek.
The day after Halloween, neighbor Justin Baer, who lives on Dayton Street and has been researching the history of the stream and how the neighborhood grew up around it, leads a short walk along the channel. Byron Wild, chair of GNA’s new Environmental Committee, will talk about what the committee is working on. Come learn what was here before the houses and why the water runs the way it does.
By about 3:45 the walk reaches the Evans Parkway Park playground, where the Social Committee will have cider and snacks. Skipping the walk? Come straight to the playground and say hello.
