Environmental Committee
Neighbors caring for Glenview’s trees, yards, streams and parks. Relaunched in fall 2026, and just getting started.
A healthier, more resilient Glenview
GNA’s Environmental Committee relaunched in fall 2026. It’s chaired by neighbor Byron Wild and open to every Glenview neighbor, whether you want to lead a project or just bring an idea.
Byron’s goal is to make our neighborhood a beautiful and healthy place to live. As he put it in his first note to neighbors, connection, generosity and care are the basis for building an ecologically resilient community.
The committee held its first meeting on Saturday, October 24, around a backyard fire pit. The plan is to meet about once a month.
Where the committee is starting
The topics that came up at the first meeting, plus the wider list of ideas the committee wants to explore.
Watershed advocacy in the Wheaton Master Plan
Making sure streams, stormwater and green space get a voice as Montgomery Planning shapes the new Wheaton Master Plan.
The Wheaton Branch near Dennis Avenue
The county’s floodplain work on the Wheaton Branch near Dennis Avenue. Byron meets with Montgomery County DEP’s Watershed Restoration Division on November 4, and will ask the county for another round of public input on the work.
Food forests & foraging
Led by a committee member: edible landscapes, food forests, and learning what grows wild around us.
Native plants & composting
Support and education for neighbors who want to plant natives or start composting at home.
Working with Glen Haven Elementary
Exploring ways to team up with our neighborhood school.
More on the list
- Recycling and hazardous waste drives

What’s next
Meet at Bucknell Drive and Windham Lane. Neighbor Justin Baer talks about the deep history of the Wheaton Branch, the stream that now runs in a concrete channel along Bucknell, and Byron shares what the committee is working on. Cider at the Evans Parkway Park playground afterward. Walk details →
Either the weekend before Thanksgiving or the weekend after. Watch your email for the date.
An early idea: a meeting for the whole neighborhood, facilitated by the committee, to build one comprehensive list of environmental requests for the Wheaton Master Plan, much like the neighborhood’s sidewalk requests.
